The Todd Valley Softball League held their winter meeting on February 7, 2007 at D.C. West High School in Valley. President Rhonda Buckley opened the meeting. The officers and town representatives introduced themselves.
The minutes were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was read and approved. We currently have $344.24. There are still some outstanding bills to be paid: Anderson Awards $ 326.53, Dot Easy $22.50, Yutan Bank $27.60, and Bennington Softball $650.00.
The following towns have paid $100 towards the League helping to pay some bills. They are Yutan, Elkhorn, Wahoo, Gretna, Fremont, Ft. Calhoun, D.C. West, Ashland and Blair.
President Buckley then explained the spreadsheet of expenses that have depleted our account. The account was opened at First State Bank in Yutan on March 1, 2003 by Skip Polen. Funds are missing by misuse of the account. After much discussion it was decided to pursue Skip Polen to the fullest. Motion made by Ken Neff to get restitution, then pursue legally. Bill Dreffs 2nd the motion. Passed unanimously. Jeff Clauson suggested going with Saunders County since Yutan softball is pursuing Skip also. Rhonda will make the call to the proper authority. From now on 2 signatures will be required on all checks.
Roni Wobken, District Representative was present to discuss the Mandatory Individual Registration. This is a national thing that is required of all ASA Class A and B players. She explained the reasoning behind it. The players are covered for 12 months-Jan. to Jan. Roni will send form to each town rep and they need to send 1 check and form back to her.
Next we discussed fees. Fees were set at $175.00 per team --$125 League play; $50 tourney. Tourney umpires fees are $25.00. State fee per team is $20 and TVSL will pay for this.
Discussion of awards took place. A motion was made by Bill Dreffs and 2nd by Robin Osburn ribbons instead of medals be given to 8 under and 10 under Rec participants. Motion passed.
Next discussion of 8 under rules. The State has 8U playing with 60 foot bases and 35 feet pitching. After discussion, Bill D. made a motion and Paul M. 2nd to have 8U coach pitch with 30 feet pitching and 40 feet bases. They will use Tee as stated in rules.
Then we discussed 10 Under Rec. rules. A motion by Rob Miller and 2nd by Ken Neff to have 60 ft. bases and 35 ft. pitching failed. A new motion by Robin O. and 2nd by Bill D. was made to have 35 ft. pitching, 50 ft. bases and after 4 balls the offensive coach will assume the count and pitch to the batter. Either the batter will hit or strike out. There will be no walks and the Tee will be eliminated. Motion passed.
Next on the agenda were umpires. 10 Under rec and coach pitch are only required to have 1 umpire. All other teams 10 under competitive and up must have 2 certified ASA umpires. Bill D. made motion and Rob M. 2nd If 2 umpires are not available at game time, and the coaches don’t agree to just one umpire then the hometown must travel to visiting team at a later date and pay umpires. Motion passed.
